I created this stop-motion animated film for my BFA Painting & Drawing show in 2016. It was so much fun making Sock Puppy and his friends come to life! I created this piece to express my anxiety about growing up and becoming an adult. I also wanted to create something that could comfort others who might be feeling the same way.
For the show, I set up a room in the Jacob Lawrence Gallery with colorful furniture and pillow seats. I wanted to recreate the comforting feeling of being in a childhood bedroom, watching TV with friends. At the same time, I wanted to give the space a "dorm room" feeling, where young adults could feel at home. The Sock Puppy characters also use "adult" language and talk like college kids, which combines with the kids' cartoon aesthetic of the video. I created the world of Sock Puppy to be a combination of my childhood home, and the new places I was living as a young adult.
